Tis the Season for Package Thefts

Did you know that 30% of American’s say they’ve had a package stolen? Residents in rural areas actually have a higher chance of having their packages stolen, so what can you do? We hope these tips keep your holiday a merry one.

  1. Ask a neighbor you know and trust that works from home or is retired to hold your packages for you.
  2. Purchase a post office box. You typically pay a monthly fee for the boxes and the expense is quite minimal ($10 or so monthly).
  3. Have packages delivered to your workplace. This is a great option if your employer will allow it.
  4. Require a signature at delivery.
  5. Utilize tracking devices to ensure you are home at the time of delivery or again ask a friend or neighbor to help keep an eye out for your package.
  6. You can invest in a porch box or a locked box. This is something you can purchase online and costs range from $89 and up. They offer you the convenience of getting your packages still delivered at home and should stand the test of time.
  7. Amazon and UPS offer lockers at numerous locations in most major cities. This program is still growing but this could be a great free option. See the links below for additional information.
